Taya
Rae Hubbard

Biography:
Taya Rae
Hubbard, a metal sculptor and painter,
grew up in Minneapolis, a city that continues to inspire her. She is driven by imagining and creating
one-of-a-kind objects. Taya
was seven years old when she received her first
set of hand tools and, with the continual encouragement of
her mother, has
never stopped building. She received a
B.F.A. from the University of North Dakota
and pursued
her M.F.A at Illinois State University. She has
worked in the commercial and
fine arts sectors for fifteen years and now resides in Phoenix, AZ.
About her
work:
Taya is a perfectionist, an aspect of her
personality
that is evident in her work. Hallmarks
of her sculptures include unique design elements, eye-catching use of
color,
and durable archival quality. Before
they are exhibited, each of Taya’s pieces
must meet
her exacting standards. She notes, “Sometimes I find myself
working pieces to death,
continually playing with shapes, textures, and contrasts until they are
just
so. Creating and re-creating an object
until it becomes my vision of what it should be.” Taya often chooses
steel as a medium because it can withstand this incessant abuse. “The
use of
steel comports with my tendency to take things to the extreme, and my
objects
look better for the process.”
